Poole company backs community football programme - and keeps its name on the sidelines at Tatnam

Greens Combustion Limited, the Poole-based combustion specialists, has agreed to support the Kids Initiative (KI), the community programme affiliated with Poole Town FC.

The company was founded in 2012 as a start-up and has grown into a global name in efficient, low-emission combustion technology. That success has not changed its view of home. Greens Combustion remains based in Poole and wants to give something back to local activities that match its culture: a little goes a long way, especially when it is directed towards good-cause community projects.

For Managing Director Richard Withnall, an avid Poole Town supporter who follows the Dolphins home and away, the first-team club would have been the obvious choice for a wider audience. After speaking with Ben Edgell, Commercial Manager at Poole Town FC, the conversation took a different turn. Ben felt the best place for Greens Combustion’s contribution was with the Kids Initiative.

Ben introduced the company to Richard Gale of the KI. Seeing the work that Richard and everyone connected with the initiative do prove humbling and confirmed why the club chose to put the opportunity into the community rather than keep it solely for the first team.

“Poole Town would have been the natural place for us to put our name. I follow the team home and away, so that was my first thought. Talking to Ben Edgell changed that. He pointed us towards the Kids Initiative, then introduced us to Richard Gale. What Richard and the KI team do for local children is remarkable. It was humbling — and it reaffirms that Poole Town is a club for the community, prepared to divert an opportunity away from the first team and into the work that helps children who need it most. That said, as a supporter I could not miss the chance of at least having our name on the sidelines at Tatnam.”
Richard Withnall - Managing Director, Greens Combustion Limited

Launched by Poole Town FC in 2018, the Kids Initiative exists to involve local children in the fun of football, particularly those facing financial, physical or emotional hardship. Working with schools, local authorities and children’s charities, it provides free coaching, kit and equipment, and opportunities for families to attend matches.

Greens Combustion’s support will help that community work continue. At the same time, the company’s name will appear on the sidelines at Tatnam Stadium, a nod to a local business that has grown with Poole, and to a Managing Director who has found a passion for non-league football.

“Greens Combustion is a successful Poole business with a genuine commitment to the town. We are delighted that Richard and his team have chosen to support the Kids Initiative, where their contribution can make a real difference to local children and families.”
Ben Edgell - Commercial Manager, Poole Town FC
"This generous sponsorship from Greens Combustion will enable us to keep producing and delivering quality books of Poole Town FC matchday tickets to participating local schools. This scheme has been hugely popular as children can be awarded these free family tickets, at the discretion of their teachers, for good achievement, attendance and attitude."
Richard Gale - Director, The Gale Foundation
